The Solid State Protection System (SSPS) course provides an SSPS overview and testing and troubleshooting practices. The course consists of classroom lecture (review), discussions, equipment demonstrations, test point (TP) checks, and "hands-on" troubleshooting techniques. Many actual plant problems are used to provide experience in troubleshooting common system failures. Additionally the students use plant specific schematics and procedures for SSPS troubleshooting. |

The Solid State Protection System (SSPS) course opens with a review of functional and operational concepts. A demonstration using the Train "A" SSPS in the MITU shows the function of the SSPS and how it provides protection and multiplexed indication. Day one is typically lectures and discussions of the SSPS overview, SSPS Block Diagram, and interfacing to other plant systems. Detailed circuitry and hands-on troubleshooting problems are performed by class participants on Day Two on the protection circuits. Day Three specifically is troubleshooting multiplexing circuits (indication). Day Four concentrates on SSPS Testing problems and troubleshooting. Day five is SSPS review and written exam. An optional one hour troubleshooting exam (or performance exam) can be administered for qualification purposes. |
