FEFT - Fuel Engineering Foundations

Minimum class size is 3.  If more than 3 students register, this course may be offered at a reduced cost/seat.

The is a hybrid course with 5-day face-to-face foundations classes, 2 days of remote or in-person training and about 1 day of online training. The first 5 days will include 3 tours to local sites, Waltz Mill, Blairsville, and the AP1000 Simulator. Day 7 will be optional topics from a list including Licensing, BWR plants, CE plants, and Fuel Performance and Monitoring. The intended audience is engineers and professionals entering the nuclear fuel industry in our Westinghouse Foundations Qualification Training program. It provides an excellent opportunity for professionals new to the industry to network with other engineers from Westinghouse facilities in the US and Sweden, other US utilities and industry experts.      Example modules are described below.     This course includes online learning modules, in-person lectures and three site tours. Technical experts instruct a broad overview of the Westinghouse nuclear design processes. Topics include: General Reactor Theory and Operations Nuclear design reload process overview Nuclear design computer code overview Peaking Factors (FQ, FDH, FZ, AO, FXY, WZ, PZ, etc) discussion Nuclear Design Fuel Management Techniques and Methods Safety Calculations (Full Systems-level approach taken for all SAR accidents; WCAP-9272 application; Conditions 1-4 in addition to RSAC) Systems training (Reactor Vessel, NI's, Rod Control, Main Coolant, PZR, Charging/Letdown, Main Steam, Turbine, Steam Dump, Feed/Condensate, Chemistry)    Registration deadline is July 19, 2024.
